1st Annual Parent/Child Regatta and Family Potluck
Thursday, September 2nd 2010 4:45pm-8pm
You
and your whole family are invited to join us out at Blythe Landing to
celebrate a successful Summer Sailing season here at NCCSR and kickoff
our Fall Sailing programs. We're looking to break down the divide
between youth and adults with one big event to bring it all together.
There are activities for all levels of sailors from our experienced
youth skippers to entire families with absolutely no experience at all.
For families looking to get connected to the Lake Norman community, this
is it!
4:45pm-5:30pm Pot Luck
Grab your picnic blanket, favorite dish and join us on the lawn before heading to the boats.
Bring either a main dish or salad/ appetizer & desert. NCCSR will provide drinks, plates, utensils and napkins.
Eating begins at 5pm- come early to get it all set up!
5:30pm-8pm 420 Racing
This
activity is for qualified youth 420 skippers and one of their parents.
Opportunities b/t races for parents to switch out might be available.
We
have 15 boats- If we exceed 15 families this will turn into a round
robin event, making space available for even more to participate.
5:30pm-8pm Sailboat Rides
For
those families not yet qualified to participate in the regatta we will
be providing short rides in our Flying Scot Sailboats. Sunfish sailboats will also be available at the beach if you are looking to test your skills in a smaller lighter-craft. This is a great way for all of our spectators to get in on the action no matter the experience level.
Prior to the Event..
We need to know if you plan to attend, so please give us a call or e-mail to reserve your space.
- How many people are coming?
- What are you bringing to the potluck?
- Are you planning to enter the Parent / Child racing?
--Would you like to go for a ride on a Flying Scot or use a Sunfish?

Important Meeting:
We will have a meeting for all rowers – youth and adult - at 6:30 on Wednesday, August 18th at Blythe Landing. There
are two parts to this meeting; 1) we will be setting up volunteer
committees to help our programs run more efficiently – from volunteer
coaching to equipment to fundraising. Please bring your ideas. 2) We
will be speaking to new rowers and coxswains interested in joining us
for the new season. This is particularly important for the youth
(Scholastic) rowers - and it is also a chance for new adult rowers to
come and ask questions. Please get the word out to anyone who you think
may be interested in the programs. We don’t have a lot of meetings
with the entire program like this, so we would appreciate it if as many
people as possible could come and be sure to drag along new recruits
with you. Refreshments will be served. (Please let Chris know if you
would like to bring some to share!)

Sunfish Racing Monday Evenings
Racing is open to all experienced NCCSR season pass sailors. The first start will be at 6 pm and we will finish up at 8pm. NCCSR will have 6 boats in the water and sailors will rig and go each Monday. NCCSR has additional Sunfish if additional boats are needed. There are only four requirements; first purchase a NCCSR season pass, second call or email on race day and reserve a boat, third have the skills to sail and race and fourth wear a PFD. Racing will be informal, but competitive, and scores will be kept. Courses will be short. This is not a learn to sail program. Boats are provided but you are welcome to bring your own Sunfish. We anticipate this Monday evening racing will a big draw for area sailors because it will be easy, fun, competitive, and friendships will be made. Please call NCCSR at 704-947-7245 and visit www.nccsailrow.org.
420 Youth Racing Thursday Evenings
Every Thursday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Just show up and race! If you have participated in scholastic sailing or a youth summer sailing camp, there is no charge. If you have not, but would like to participate, a youth season pass is available to purchase for $75.

All rowing programs are operated out of the Lake Norman YMCA. We have introduced an adult Learn to row class for inexperienced rowers wishes to take up the sport. This class has been very popular. Sailing Update
All sailing classes are operated out of Blythe Landing. Many sailing classes have been completed and new classes are being posted all the time. Social sailing and free sailing for season pass holders are well underway.
